Ian Nicholson-Kapasi

Counsellor in TRaining

My background and how I work

It is my belief that everyone would benefit from therapy at various times throughout their life, and I am here for you in those times.

I am here to listen to you and help you create change in your life, by providing a supportive, professional relationship. It is my aim to help you identify what is causing you difficulty, allowing you to feel whatever you feel - enabling repair and in time, even growth.

For many of us, asking for help feels impossible, embarrassing, or shameful. But if you are reading this, then you are already starting to help yourself and I invite you to take the next step and engage with me in working together.

As a father, I am aware of some of the difficulties that parenting brings. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental, professional and confidential relationship, stepping into your frame of reference and walking beside you in your experiences. I am here to be with you during your parental journey, from pre-pregnancy to birth and beyond.

What drives me

Through personal experience of infertility, IVF and becoming a father in my mid-forties, I have an understanding of some of the complex depths of emotions and challenges that becoming a parent can bring. I have known many times when I have needed the very help that I am now here to provide you. By working together, we can achieve the change you seek.

I work with both the Person-Centred approach and Psychodynamic modalities in my practice. However, it is the relationship that heals, regardless of modality. I invite you to get in contact, so that we can consider what will be most helpful for you.

Some of my experience

I have worked as a volunteer for several organisations, including the Prince’s Trust as a business mentor and aftercare advisor. For the last 20 years, I have run a business that was a creative, safe space for makers - providing facilities to learn, work and offering mentoring that was tailored around wellbeing.

My credentials

I am a member of COSCA – The Confederation of Scottish Counselling Agencies.

I am entering my final year of a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling at Edinburgh University.
